DPWH To Hire 1,396 Young Civil Engineers

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will employ 1,396 civil engineers to augment its workforce in the Regional and District Offices nationwide.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson said that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has authorized the DPWH to hire additional civil engineers to augment technical capabilities to implement much bigger infra budget.

“To meet the Department’s target to increase infrastructure spending, we are hiring more than a thousand of dedicated civil engineers nationwide to be part of our team of field engineers,” said Secretary Singson.

The 1,396 civil engineers will be hired as Engineer II in the DPWH, with a monthly salary of P26,878.

Qualified applicant must be a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering graduate; has passed the Civil Engineering licensure examination given by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC); has a one (1) year of relevant working experience with at least four (4) hours of relevant training. Preference is given to those who are not more than 30 years old, Secretary Singson said.

Those who meet the requirement must submit to DPWH the following requirements: (1) completed           Personal Data Sheet (CSC Form No. 212); (2) covering letter; (3) original or authenticated Transcript of Records; (4) authenticated copies PRC license and Certificates of Training.

As an additional requirement, qualified applicants will have to pass the Computer Literacy Exam (CLE) being administered by the DPWH Information Management Service free of charge.

Since 2010, DPWH’s appropriation have substantially increased and adjusted to include regular current year, continuing and extended budget, special purpose funds and automatic appropriations and fund releases from other agencies for implementation of projects like farm-to-market and tourism roads.

Secretary Singson has also been advocating the recruit and training of young and purpose-driven civil engineers, who would eventually set the new standard of civil engineers in the bureaucracy.

In 2013, he has introduced the Cadet Engineering Program in the DPWH, which aims to produce the best civil engineers in the country through an extensive training focusing on the development of technical and professional competencies. The agency hired 40 cadet engineers under this program’s first batch.

For CY 2015, 41 best and brightest young civil engineering graduates were attracted under the 2nd batch, who are undergoing comprehensive training in different engineering functions of the DPWH.
