Binay "Jail probably next for Junjun"

Binay suspects politics is behind the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman to dismiss suspended Mayor Junjun Binay from public office.

Shortly before hearing mass at the Sto. Nino shrine in Cebu, the mayor's mother, Dr. Elenita Binay, told reporters she was very sad over news of the Ombudsman's decision.

"We are expecting naman it eh na soon it will... Oo, the decision na baka ganoon nga gawin," said Dr. Binay.

Jejomar Binay said he has been anticipating an unfavorable decision.

"We are expecting continuation ng demolition by perception, eh. Ipa-paaresto tapos ipapakulong. Second part of that, ipapakulong si Mayor Junjun," said the Binay.

Binay said it was "ridiculous" that his son received last week a correspondence from the Commission on Audit (COA), directing the suspended mayor to reply within 15 days, while it was impossible for Junjun to produce documents because he had no access since his suspension.

"Nakakatawa dito, bakit naman sina Butch Abad ang tagal-tagal na ilang taon na eh andun pa lang sa imbestigasyon. Si Junjun dismissal na kaagad. Eh ngayon may pending case pa sa Court of Appeals, same case sa Supreme Court. Ayoko naman sabihing mahina ang utak ng Ombudsman pero yun nga sinasabi napaka-elementary ngayon, kahit first year maipapaliwanag 'yan," he said.

What bothers the vice-president now is the filing of certificate of candidacy of his son by Monday.

"Elementary iyan, hindi maaaring ground iyan for an admin aspect of a case. It is not a ground for disqualification. Pero 'di pa naman nagpapa-file, at kung magpa-file ministerial lang yun, tatanggapin iyan ng Comelec. Mag-file sila ng disqualification, katawa-tawa lang. Nagpapasalamat ako na naging abugado ako. Nagpraktis naman ako. Naiintindihan ko naman ang rules," he said.

Senator Nancy Binay, for her part, said that despite the Ombudsman's decision, they will continue to serve the people.

"I think kahit anong gawin nilang paninira sa pamilya ko basta kami magko-concentrate lang kami sa pagtulong sa mga kababayan. Nakakalungkot kasi na imbes na ang pamahalaan ay mag-concentrate sila na bigyan ng tulong ang ating mga kababayan. Ano ang ginagawa nila? Pilit nilang pinapabagsak ang pamilya namin," she said.
