DPWH Celebrates 117th Anniversary
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) commemorates its 117th Founding Anniversary with the theme “DPWH: Sa Daang Matuwid, Para sa Diyos at Bayan” on June 22, 2015 at DPWH Head Office in Port Area, Manila.
Secretary Rogelio L. Singson will give service awards to DPWH employees, retirees and those serving the Department for 40 years.
Among the notable achievements of DPWH this 2nd quarter of CY 2015 is the Quality Management System of the Department now certified in accordance with the requirements of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 standards.
DPWH ISO 9001:2008 Certification is aligned with President Benigno S. Aquino III administration’s call on government agencies to improve public service delivery and in ensuring good governance and sustaining the “Tuwid na Daan” reform efforts.
Included in the DPWH QMS ISO 9001:2008 certificate of registration are nine (9) Services, six (6) Bureaus, two (2) pilot Regional Offices of National Capital Region and Region XI, and South Manila District Engineering Office and Davao City District Engineering Office as two (2) pilot District Engineering Offices for a total of 19 Offices.
As part of its 117th anniversary celebration, the DPWH employees and officials will conduct a Fun Run on June 20, 2015 covering a distance of about 6 kilometers from DPWH Head Office to the Manila Film Center at CCP Complex which will be followed by a tree planting activity at the Ipil-Ipil Grounds also at CCP Complex, Pasay City.
The simple strategy of right project with the right cost and right quality, and right-on-time implementation by the right people has become one of the most notable examples of good governance and anti-corruption reforms of the Aquino administration.
With the objective of increasing mobility and total connectivity of people, the DPWH under the Aquino administration has accomplished to date the paving of 5,208 kilometers of upaved national roads, rehabilitated 4,397 kilometers of paved sections, completed 3,493 kilometers of preventive maintenance work for national, widened 1,577 kilometers of road, and constructed 520 kilometers of highway.
Successes in its transformation programs that resulted for more competitive, transparent and streamlined processes while eliminating opportunities for collusion and corrupt practices enabled DPWH to veer away from the negative image in previous years as one of the most corrupt national government agencies.
DPWH traces its roots to the Department of War and Public Works, one (1) of the first four (4) Departments of the Philippine Revolutionary Government created by virtue of then President Emilio Aguinaldo’s Organic Decree in June 23, 1898.
